Prompting for Creative Writing

AI can be an amazing co-writer! Give it a good starting point.

• Goal: Haiku about a rainy day.
  Prompt: "Write a haiku about watching rain fall outside."
  (Clear TASK & CONTEXT)
• Goal: Fantasy story ideas.
  Prompt: "Brainstorm five fantasy story ideas about a grumpy gnome finding a magical artifact."
  (Clear TASK & Specific CONTEXT)
• Goal: Start of a mystery story.
  Prompt: "Write the first paragraph (50 words) of a mystery set in an old library, introducing a detective finding a coded note."
  (Clear TASK, CONTEXT, FORMAT constraint)

Tips for Creative Prompts:

• Specify Genre (Fantasy, sci-fi, comedy?)
• Mention Characters
• Set the Scene (Where/when?)
• Hint at the Plot
• Define the Mood (Scary, funny, exciting?)

A Peek at Image Prompts

AI can also create pictures from text (Text-to-Image). Describe what you want to see.

• Goal: Cute cat picture.
  Simple Prompt: "A cute cat." (Result: Generic)
  Better Prompt: "A fluffy ginger kitten sleeping in a sunbeam, cartoon style." (More specific details & style)
• Goal: Imaginative scene.
  Prompt: "An astronaut riding a bicycle on the moon, detailed oil painting style." (Clear subject, action, setting, style)

Tips for Basic Image Prompts:

• Subject (Main thing?)
• Action (Doing what?)
• Setting (Where?)
• Style (Photo, cartoon, painting?)
• Details (Colors, lighting, mood?)

Image prompting gets complex, but clear descriptions are key!
